Downtown Construction Update: September 2017 (PHOTOS)

One of the most popular features on BuildingATX is our periodic photo update featuring some of the major projects under construction in downtown Austin. There are lots of projects underway to be excited about — here’s a snapshot of what’s happening downtown as of September 2017:

The Independent construction austin
The Independent is rising quickly and making an impact on the skyline, even with more than 200 more feet to go! Balfour Beatty is building this tower designed by Rhode Partners.
The Independent Austin construction
Here’s a shot of The Independent from up close. The angled slab protruding from the building is the pool deck.
Austin Fairmont Canopy Walk construction
The Canopy Walk connecting the Fairmont hotel to the Austin Convention Center is making progress. AECOM Hunt Construction is the contractor.
Third and Shoal construction austin
The Third+Shoal office tower is also filling in a gap in the skyline. It appears that crews are about 11 floors up (it will be 29 stories tall when completed).

… and a view of Third+Shoal from closer up. Gensler designed the tower and DPR Construction is the contractor.
Hotel Zaza construction Austin
The Hotel Zaza and Gables tower is getting ready to pour the 7th level slab. Gilbane is the general contractor on this hybrid Hotel and apartment project.
Austin bowling alley goodnight construction
This renovation and addition to the old Miller Blueprint building will become four-story mutli-use building with a bowling alley, restaurant, lounge, and event space.
Shoal creek walk office building construction Austin
The Shoal Creek Walk office tower near the Whole Foods HQ looks to be dried-in. Austin Commercial is building this Nelsen Partners-designed tower.
Austin Proper construction austin
The Austin Proper hotel and condo tower is rising on the corner of 2nd and Nueces (with the Third + Shoal right behind it in this photo).
