Popular Rainey Street bar and restaurant Banger’s Sausage House and Beer Garden announced this week that construction has commenced on a 15,000 square foot expansion into the lot to the north of the existing beer garden.
A post on the bar’s social media sites indicate that the expansion should be open for business in about a year, just in time for SXSW 2018.
Austin-based MAKER Architects is handling the design work for the expansion. According to CultureMap, other firms working on the project include Lilianne Steckel Interior Design, and In Good Taste Design.
When completed, the expansion will effectively double the number of draft beer taps (to over 200), making it one of the largest in Texas. It will also provide room for a smokehouse, fermentation space, and a full meat processing area.
In addition to the new bar and seating areas, the new 3-story building will include an events space in the basement and office space. Operations at the existing bar or beer garden space will not be affected by the construction of the expansion, according to Banger’s.
