A Central Texas hospital network known for its suburban hospitals is planning to open two Central Austin clinics, one in downtown Austin and one near the Domain.
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White plans to open a 6,000-square foot clinic at E. Cesar Chavez Street later this month, with plans to expand the clinic to 10,000 square feet. The healthcare system is also planning to open a 10,000 square-foot clinic at 2608 Brockton Drive, which is east of the Domain off of N. Burnet Road. That clinic will open Jan. 23, and will eventually expand to 17,000 square feet, the Austin Business Journal reported.
Baylor Scott & White says it chose the two clinic sites because of the dense populations and mix of businesses around both.
The downtown clinic will also include some features that aren’t in any other Baylor Scott & White clinics. One of those is an on-demand app that allows patients to virtually consult with nurses. The healthcare system will keep an eye on how those technologies work and consider incorporating them in its other Texas locations – of which it has 900.
Baylor Scott & White purchased the former Lakeway Regional Medical Center in 2016, opened another clinic recently at 5000 W. Slaughter Lane, and has tentative plans to build a hospital in Pflugerville.
Haddon + Cowan, an Austin architecture firm, designed the downtown and Domain clinics. Dallas-based MEDCO Construction was the general contractor.
