New Trail Bridge at Congress Avenue Coming Soon (RENDERING)

January 18, 2017 by Editor

The Trail Foundation, the 501(c)3 nonprofit group dedicated to enhancing the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail at Lady Bird Lake, continues to raise funds to build a new trail bridge under Congress Avenue.

The proposed bridge would replace the current wooden bridge with a 14-foot wide concrete and steel structure similar to the boardwalk trail on the south side of the river. In addition to a wider path and ADA-accessibility, the project will add more space for people to view the Congress Avenue bridge bats.

The project is projected to cost approximately $2.5 million to construct. In addition to asking for individual contributions and corporate sponsorships, the foundation has also established TeamTTF in conjunction with the Austin Gives Miles program during the Austin Marathon. Participants running the marathon with TeamTTF are dedicating their training miles and raising funds for the Congress Ave. project.

Final design and permitting is underway for the bridge, but there is currently no official construction schedule.
