If the lobby of the downtown Hilton seems a little dustier than usual the next time you visit, it’s because a huge renovation is about to be under way for the hotel and conference site. The $20+ million dollar project will include a full renovation of the hotel’s lobby, public areas, and meeting space. In addition, the project will include a Starbucks, two new restaurant concepts, and an event venue. EDG Interior Architecture + Design of California will be in charge of the project.
“This year is going to be an exciting year for our hotel,” said Robert Watson, general manager of Hilton Austin. “When we complete this endeavor, Hilton Austin will reflect the true culture and vibe of our city. These additions and improvements will also give us fresh and creative ways to meet the ever-changing needs of our guests and remind them where they are at every turn.”
The project will last from May until the end of the year, rolled out in phases to minimize any inconvenience for guests. The lobby renovation, which includes designated work spaces, a new media wall, and intimate social areas is slated for completion by mid-summer. The first of the restaurant projects, Cannon + Belle, opens by late summer, as does the event space, The Reverbery. Next up in early fall is the 80,000 square foot meeting space, followed by the late fall openings of a 3,000 square foot Starbucks that will include one of the first in Texas Evening Starbucks menu that includes beer, wine, small plates, and desserts starting at 4pm. Finally, late fall will see the opening of the Austin Taco Project that promises “a novel take on tacos with a custom cocktail program and pub games,” according to a press release.
In addition to these improvements, the hotel has already spent $21 million to upgrade its 800 rooms, suites, executive lounge, and 8th floor pool deck and bar in the past few years.
