Austinites young and old have a chance to shape Butler Park’s newest recreational environment.
The City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is working with design consultant TBG Partners to engage with stakeholders in the community as the design for the new Alliance Children’s Garden project.
The project is a 2-acre recreational environment within Butler Park, and is part of the Town Lake Master Plan adopted by City Council in 1999.
According to PARD, Alliance Children’s Garden is intended to be tailored for children while providing a variety of play and recreational experiences – including promotion of wellness, and education – for families and visitors of all ages.
PARD and TBG are seeking input on the potential amenities, shade, food vendors, parking, bicycle connectivity, and other elements that may ultimately be incorporated into the project.
The first public meeting will take place this Saturday, December 5th, 2015 from 11am to 1pm at the Palmer Events Center. According to PARD, the meeting format will be very family friendly, with activities for children.
Construction of the project is currently estimated to cost up to $3 million. Construction and maintenance of the parkland around the Palmer Events Center is funded by a motor vehicle rental tax approved by voters in 1998.
Another public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 7th, 2016 at 6:30pm. Both meetings will be held at the Palmer Events Center. There is also an online survey where you can provide your input on the project.
