Westin Opens Downtown

July 21, 2015 by Kate Harrington

Downtown Austin’s hotel construction boom continues, as do new hotel openings. The latest to welcome guests is the 366-room Westin Austin Downtown at 310 E. Fifth Street, developed by White Lodging. It officially opened its doors on July 16, bringing the number of central business district hotel rooms up to nearly 8,000.

White Lodging is also developing two new hotels set to start construction soon, an Element and an Aloft. One of White Lodging’s best-known downtown Austin hotels is the new JW Marriott, which opened earlier this year. The luxury hotel on Congress Ave. has more than 1,000 rooms.

The Westin also features southern-stye restaurant Stella San Jac.

Another luxury hotel, the Fairmont, is also under construction. Together with the JW Marriott, those two hotels alone will add 2,000 rooms to downtown Austin’s hotel market.

But more are on the way. Hotel Van Zandt in the Rainey Street District is slated to open in October, a Hotel ZaZa across from Republic Square Park is scheduled to open in 2016, and a Hotel Indigo /Holiday Inn Express at Neches and 9th Streets is planned to open this summer.
