What’s Next for the Former Omelettry Site?

June 1, 2015 by Kate Harrington

An era has ended for the Burnet Road location of the popular eatery The Omelettry. Its original home at 4811 Burnet Rd. is being demolished and will house a new development.

The restaurant has re-opened in a new location on Airport Boulevard.

Property owner Bryan Cumby told the Austin Business Journal that something new will take shape on the site, but he’s keeping the details under wraps for now.

The site spans over 34,000 square feet, and could hold a smaller residential project. Cumby did say he will not require a zoning change for the new development.

Burnet Road has seen a rapid transformation in the last few years, and a mixed-use apartment or condo project – both are among the rumored uses for the site – would fit in with the growth along that corridor.

Nearby, the new Burnet Marketplace is rising at 6701 Burnet Road, a vertical mixed-use project that will include apartments and ground floor retail. Next door to that project is a newly-renovated strip shopping center that will house trendy restaurants Barley Swine, Bufalina, and Lick.

Farther south at 5453 Burnet Road, Burnet Flats recently opened, with 179 upscale apartments.
