Burger lovers rejoice; local burger chain P. Terry’s has opened its downtown location, at 515 Congress Ave., Suite 130.
This is the first P. Terry’s without a drive through or the prominent Googie-style architecture that helps define the restaurant’s other nine locations. No doubt diners will find their way there, though, especially late at night. The new location is open until 3:00am Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

P. Terry’s founder Patrick Terry told Community Impact that it took four years to find the right downtown location. Another burger restaurant, Burger Bar, also recently opened downtown. That restaurant is in the newly-opened JW Marriott at Congress Ave. & 2nd Street, and serves burgers, fries, and shakes from a walk-up window.

Casual restaurants like Burger Bar and P. Terry’s are opening their doors as the number of downtown residents grows; according to the Downtown Austin Alliance, roughly 10,000 people live in downtown Austin. With 1,330 more residential units under construction and projects like the Waller Creek Tunnel paving the way for more development, that number will no doubt grow.
