The JW Marriott Hotel has opened its doors to guests, the first of several new luxury hotels taking shape in downtown Austin to do so.

The new hotel boasts 1,012 guest rooms and more than 110,000 square feet of meeting space, making it the largest hotel in Austin. Its ballroom spans 30,000 square feet, making it the second largest ballroom in Austin after the convention center’s ballroom.

The Austin Business Journal reports that businesses have taken note: even before the hotel was officially open, it had signed deals to host several conferences.

The new JW Marriott will soon be joined by a host of other hotels under construction. The Fairmont at East Cesar Chavez and Red River Street broke ground in November, and is planned to rise to 600 feet, making it the second-tallest building in downtown Austin.

A new Westin at 5th Street and San Jacinto Boulevard is planned to open soon, along with the Hotel Van Zandt in the Rainey Street District.
