Officials with the Travis County health care district, Central Health, are hosting a Nov. 18th forum that will give business leaders and residents a chance to talk about the future of the University Medical Center Brackenridge Campus.
Once the Seton Healthcare Family’s new $295 teaching hospital is completed in 2017, the current Brackenridge Hospital will close, and the Brackenridge Campus will be redeveloped.
The property is slated to become a mixed-use site with office, residential and retail, as well as healthcare-related tenants.
“We hope that synergy happens, and that we are able to attract biotech companies and look at other medical uses there to link up with the medical school along with residential, office space and possibly even a hotel,” Christie Garbe, Central Health’s vice president and chief strategy officer, told the Austin Business Journal. “We think this is going to be the next big thing for downtown Austin, for serving individuals who lack access to health care and for building out a great piece of property.”
A second community forum is planned to take place in January. The ABJ reports that Central Health will release the results of the forum along with an online survey this spring.
