The Auditorium Shores area is undergoing a series of improvement projects that will transform the look of the area and improve the park’s ability to host large outdoor events. The hike and bike trail that runs through this area will remain open during construction, with detours provided when necessary. Construction started in December 2013 and will be completed in phases as seen in the graphics below.
According to the City of Austin, upgrades at the Trailhead area will create “a more resilient parkland setting for daily use and special events.” Funding for the trailhead comes from the State of Texas and the City of Austin, each paying for half of the $2M total cost. This area is set to reopen to the public by August.
Auditorium Shores Improvements
Funded by a $3.5M donation from C3 Events (organizer of the Austin City Limits Music Festival), the improvements at Auditorium Shores “will bring a renewed focus on this facility as a great urban park that can sustainably accommodate patrons, special events and community gatherings.” When complete, expect to see newly designed and developed off-leash area, realignment of the trail, irrigation and new turfgrass for the event lawn, and a revamped shoreline.
