As East Riverside Corridor Grows, Plans to Give Hike and Bike Trail a Boost Too

February 5, 2014 by Kate Harrington

Austin’s east side growth – specifically along the East Riverside corridor – has the city and the Trail Foundation looking at ways to improve and augment sections of the beloved Butler Hike and Bike Trail that extends southeast from the new Boardwalk.

The city and the Trail Foundation are in the process of creating a master plan for the hike and bike trail that would include the Southeast Shore of Ladybird Lake from the Boardwalk to Longhorn Dam.

According to the city, a series of public engagement meetings and an online survey have shown that Austinites want to create bicycle and/or pedestrian bridges that would connect the north and south shore on the lake’s eastern end, while they also support keeping downtown views.

What would you like to see on this section of the hike and bike trail? Would you utilize the trail if improvements are made in this area? Leave your comments below.
