It’s Almost Here: The Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake

January 9, 2014 by Kate Harrington

In the planning stages since 2007 and under construction since 2012, the Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake is nearing completion.

The trail is now 85 percent complete, and the city is saying it will be completely wrapped up this June. Work done so far includes most of the actual structure and most of the on-grade trail east and west of I-35.

Lighting, grading, landscaping and final design of the fishing pier are all to come in the next few months.

When it’s done, the new Boardwalk Trail will close a 1.2 mile gap in the trail by connecting the trail end at the Austin American-Statesman building with Lakeshore Park. About half new trail extends over the water of Lady Bird Lake, and other portions are elevated over sensitive wetland areas.
