With so much development activity down on South Lamar, we decided to post some updates about all of the projects that are currently underway. Just one problem: there are too many projects for just one post! This will be the first in a series of SoLa construction updates.
First up: Hanover South Lamar. One of the two tower cranes was being dismantled over the weekend. The 340-unit apartment building (plus 6,000 SF of retail) will open in the Fall of 2014. Houston-based WGW Architects (Wallace Garcia Wilson) is the project design lead.
Just south of Hanover is the Lamar Union project, also known as the site of the Lamar Plaza Shopping Center and the Alamo Drafthouse. This massive Greystar redevelopment project (which will include a new and improved Drafthouse) is set to open in late 2014. Austin architecture heavyweight Michael Hsu is the design architect for the project in association with BOKA Powell. The civil engineer for the Lamar Union project is Austin Fast 50-Firm BIG RED DOG Engineering.
Crews are putting the finishing touches on the Gibson Flats building (200 units, 3000 SF of retail). Some residents have already moved in, and the remainder of the units will deliver this year:
Look for our next post as we travel further south on Lamar. Which project are you most excited about? Leave a comment below!
