ABIA’s $62M Expansion Underway

October 2, 2013 by Editor

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) has experienced continuous growth over the past several years, and there are plans to expand the airport to keep up with record growth.

The first of a series of planned projects is an expansion to the terminal, including a new passenger screening checkpoint with 10 additional lanes. The City of Austin says that the Terminal East Infill Project will add approximately 55,000 square feet and will renovate approximately 17,000 square feet of the existing space. According to KTBC, demolition work is now underway at the airport to make way for the $62-million project.

The design-build team for the project includes Austin-based PageSoutherlandPage (who was also heavily involved in the original terminal design), and Hensel Phelps Construction.  The project is anticipated for completion in 2015.

ABIA has plans for several more major construction projects.  Check back here at BuildingATX as we profile the other improvements that you can expect to see at ABIA.
