After ditching last year’s plans to build a 1000-unit condo/apartment/hotel towers on Rainey Street, the Sutton Company now has bigger plans in the works. According to the Statesman, the proposed “Waller Center” will be located just south of the Convention Center near the intersection of Red River and Cesar Chavez:

In addition to a condo/hotel tower that could be as tall as 65 stories… Sutton envisions an apartment tower of 35 to 45 stories and an office/retail tower of 17 to 20 stories.
If this project moves forward, this area of downtown could eventually boast two of Austin’s tallest buildings. The 48-story Fairmont Austin hotel project is proposed on the northeast corner of Red River and Cesar Chavez. That project is set to break ground this year.
